Chelsea FC | Ben Chilwell Signing Video

I worked on the official signing video for Ben Chilwell, created for Chelsea FC. It was a fast-paced and exciting project where I helped bring together video, animation, and 3D design to support a major club announcement.

Behind the Scenes of a Signing Video

Working on this project meant we got early access to some exciting news — Chelsea were about to sign Ben Chilwell. Of course, it was all under NDA. A lot goes into preparing these big announcements. From graphics and kit designs to stitched initials and social media content, everything has to be ready before the news goes public.

The Signing Day Process

On signing day, things move fast. Ben arrives at Chelsea’s training ground early in the morning. He gets into his new kit and heads straight to the green screen studio. There, Chelsea’s media team film stills and short video clips.

We receive the footage around 3pm. That gives us only a few hours to edit. We remove the green screen, apply a quick grade, and drop the footage into our prepared animation. By 6pm, the final video goes live on Chelsea’s official channels.

The result? Over 1 million views on Twitter within the first 24 hours.

The Concept – A Chilly Train Ride

The concept came from Chelsea’s in-house creatives. They imagined Ben entering a futuristic train carriage, with icy graphics and archive footage of past Chelsea players showing on the LED screens.

Ben’s nickname is Chilly, so we leaned into that. We gave the whole scene a cold, icy look.

I used Cinema 4D to adapt a 3D model of a train carriage. Due to time limits, we focused on modifying a base model instead of building from scratch. I used Octane Render to give it a clean, metallic, and futuristic finish. Neon blue lighting added to the cold atmosphere.

The Animation Process

We planned ahead by using placeholder green screen clips. That way, when the real footage arrived, it slotted straight in.

The animation was built for speed and flexibility. We also included some fun Easter eggs—for example, archive clips of famous Chelsea left backs, and a few quick, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it frames that fans spotted and shared online.
